It's No One You Know - Opens September 10

When confronted with the idea of portraiture, most of us immediately remember that terrible painting of Aunt Millie we inherited that’s still in our closet, or the humiliating day we were forced to dress up in our Sunday best to pose for some stranger so that our parents could hang a billboard sized photo of the family on the wall. Or, we call to mind more recognizable likenesses, such as famous portraits of people we know, or at least know of, like George Washington, or even the Mona Lisa.

But what about portraits of those you don’t know? The human face is infinitely interesting, evocative and expressive, with endless variety of form. My goal is to help art collectors expand their notion of what the portrait can be, apart from its role as marker of a moment in time, of interest only to those in the know. A portrait of no one you know can be compelling all on its own, and tell stories in a glance or turn of the head.

The new show and sale, It’s No One You Know, opening to the public September 11th, with a preview sales reception on September 10th from 6-8 pm, will explore those stories with work by artists Jack Barrett, Michael Assiff, Donna Gordon, Cecilia Lueza, Scott Moore,
Andrea Pejack, Hugo Porcaro, Curtis Sneary, and Joe Steiner.
